The China Anti-Cancer Association and the World Association for Integrative Oncology have recently held two international conferences in Vietnam and Malaysia, respectively, aiming to share China's cancer technologies and strategies with the world and promote international cooperation.

Both conferences were part of 2025 the 5th ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) International Integrative Oncology Medicine Session, with one being held in Kuala Lumpur, capital of Malaysia, on Aug 5 and the other in Vietnam's capital, Hanoi, on Aug 8.

During the event held on Aug 8, Fan Daiming, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of the China Anti-Cancer Association, said during a video address that cancer remains a major global public health challenge, and only through dismantling disciplinary barriers and strengthening regional cooperation can effectively overcome treatment difficulties.

Through establishing a training base dedicated to promoting an integrative cancer treatment strategy in Guangdong province, Fan said that the association has held 220 training sessions, received 90 international medical delegations, and provided online consultation services to over 2,800 international patients, said Fan.

Wang Ying, vice-president of the association, said that China reported 4.8 million new cancer cases and 2.57 million related deaths in 2022, with problems such as an aging population, insufficient screening, and a trend of late-stage diagnosis remaining prominent.

Although the five-year survival rate of cancer patients has increased 43.7 percent, the number remains lower than that in developed countries, she said.

Wang added that China is advancing early screening programs, vaccinations, as well as promoting a healthy lifestyle and standardized treatment to tackle cancer diseases.
