Prof. Daiming Fan, President of China Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), has been elected as an International Correspondent of the National Academy of Medicine of Brazil (ANM) on May 19th (Beijing Time). Prof. Fan and Prof. Carole Mathelin, President of the French National Academy of Surgery, are the two new International Correspondents elected this year.
The induction ceremony took place in Rio de Janeiro, with Prof. Eliete Bouskela, ANM’s President, presiding over the event and Prof. Maurício Magalhães Costa, member of ANM, delivering the welcome address.
Founded in 1829, ANM plays a pivotal role in advancing medical science and public health policy across Latin America. It comprises divisions in surgery, clinical medicine, and basic sciences, and serves as a key advisory body to the Brazilian government. The Academy regularly hosts scientific sessions, engages in interdisciplinary research, and promotes international collaboration in healthcare.
In his welcome address, Prof. Costa praised Prof. Fan's extensive contributions to oncology, highlighting his leadership in developing CACA Guidelines for Holistic Integrative Management of Cancer. He noted that Prof. Fan’s appointment will deepen collaboration between China and Brazil and energize joint efforts in cancer prevention and control.
In his remarks, Prof. Fan expressed deep appreciation for the ANM’s recognition and emphasized the shared commitment between the two institutions to medical innovation and public health improvement. He proposed future cooperation in areas such as academic summits, expert exchanges, and joint training programs for young scientists, with a focus on integrative medicine as a unifying approach.
Prof. Fan’s election represents not only a recognition of his individual scientific achievements, but also a milestone in China–Brazil medical collaboration. To further this partnership, CACA and ANM will co-host the China–Brazil Anti-Cancer Summit this July, aiming to foster deeper scientific exchange and contribute jointly to the global fight against cancer.
