2025 China-Japan Anti-Cancer Summit Successfully Held Online

On February 20, 2025, the 2025 China-Japan Anti-Cancer Summit was successfully held virtually. The event was jointly organized by China Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), Japan Society of Clinical Oncology (JSCO), Asian Oncology Society (AOS), and World Association for Integrative Oncology (WAIO). The conference attracted audiences from China, Japan, United States, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and other countries, with a total of over 14 million real-time online viewers worldwide.

During the conference, leading oncology experts from China and Japan engaged in in-depth discussions on the central topic of cancer prevention and control. The summit was chaired by Academician Fan Jia, Vice President of CACA, Honorary President of Zhongshan Hospital Affiliated with Fudan University, and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences; and Professor Wang Ying, Vice President of CACA, Secretary-General of AOS, and Secretary-General of WAIO.  The conference featured keynote speeches by Academician Fan Daiming, President of CACA, President of AOS, and President of WAIO; Professor Takayuki Yoshino, President of JSCO, Secretary-General of AOS, and Vice President of National Cancer Center Hospital East in Japan; Professor Koji Kono, Vice President of JSCO and Vice President of Fukushima Medical University; and Professor Ji Jiafu, Director of the Department of Surgery at Peking University Cancer Hospital and President of the Beijing Anti-Cancer Association. At the opening ceremony, Vice President Wang Ying delivered a speech on behalf of CACA.

 

At the summit, Prof. Fan delivered a keynote speech titled “Development of Holistic Integrative Management of Cancer in China”, explaining the theory of HIM and introducing the “CACA Guidelines” for cancer diagnosis and treatment.  These guidelines, with distinct Chinese characteristics, are systematic, innovative, and medically accessible, providing new perspectives and insights for global cancer prevention and control.

 

Prof. Yoshino presented on “SCRUM-MONSTAR & CIRCULATE-Japan Platform to Accelerate Precision Oncology Innovations; Achievement and Perspective”, showcasing Japan’s latest advancements in cancer screening programs, clinical trial design, and drug development.

 

Prof. Ji gave a detailed presentation on “CACA Guidelines for Holistic Integrative Management of Gastric Cancer”, systematically explaining the core content of CACA gastric cancer guidelines and highlighting cutting-edge advancements in standardized diagnosis and treatment in China, such as AI diagnosis and dual-target immunotherapy, offering a new comprehensive diagnostic and treatment paradigm for gastric cancer patients.

 

Prof. Kono shared his insights on “Prevention and Screening Programs for Prevalent Tumors in Japan”, discussing trends in cancer incidence in Japan, historical development of government cancer control legislation, cancer prevention recommendations, and the country’s cancer screening programs, including their coverage and screening targets.

 

The panel discussion was a highlight of this summit. Experts from China and Japan engaged in full discussions on key issues including: impact of genetic expression differences between Eastern and Western population on cancer disgnosis and treatment, ways to improve the five-year survival rate of gastric cancer patients, methods to increase screening coverage, and balancing funding for cancer prevention and innovative therapies.  Prof. Fan particularly emphasized that cancer prevention and screening are more important than treatment, and that oncologists should also focus on patient rehabilitation, taking into account factors such as nutrition, psychology, and exercise to ensure better patient outcomes. The experts shared experiences from both China and Japan, providing new ideas for future cancer prevention and control.

The successful convening of this anti-cancer summit not only deepened cooperation between China and Japan in cancer diagnosis and treatment but also expanded the international exchange network of CACA, adding new momentum to the future development of global cancer prevention and control efforts.
