The 2023 China-Africa Anti-Cancer Summit was Successfully Held Online

On September 13, the 2023 China-Africa Anti-Cancer Summit hosted by the China Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) came to a successful conclusion, which is a China-Africa cooperation and exchange platform created by CACA for the first time in the field of cancer. The exciting conference attracted viewers from 10 countries, including China, the United States, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Cameroon, Morocco, Uganda, Malawi, and Namibia, with a total of 15.56 million global real-time online views.

At the summit, important leaders in the field of oncology from China and Africa gathered in the clouds to jointly interpret the latest research results in the field of cancer, share cutting-edge information on anti-cancer, stimulate the in-depth exchanges and integration of academic ideas and perspectives, and bring an academic feast to the global oncology scholars.

Academician Fan Daiming, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, foreign member of the American Academy of Medicine and the French Academy of Medical Sciences, and chairman of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), gave a wonderful and unique keynote speech at the summit, and launched the "Chinese Guidelines for Integrative Diagnosis and Treatment of Tumors (CACA Guidelines)", which provides "Chinese Solutions" for the prevention and treatment of tumors in Africa and other countries. The launch of the CACA Guidelines provides a "Chinese solution" for tumor prevention and treatment in Africa and other countries, and also contributes valuable "Chinese experience" to the cause of global cancer prevention and control.

Prof. Ifeoma Okoye, President of the African Clinical Trials Consortium (ACTC) and founder of the African Cancer NGO, shared his views on the topic of "Fully utilizing China's renowned technological advantages in global clinical trials to bridge the gap between low- and middle-income countries in Africa in terms of oncology clinical trial technology".

Dr. Susan Citonje Masadabwe-Chikuni, President of the Zambia Clinical and Radiation Oncology Association and Vice-Chairman of the Zambia National Cancer Prevention and Control Task Force, introduced the current situation and challenges of cancer prevention and control in Africa with the topic "Cancer Prevention and Control in Sub-Saharan Africa: The Case of Zambia".  

Ms. Benda Kithaka, Founder and Executive Director of KILELE Health Association, a health advocate from Kenya, shared her experience in cancer prevention and control in Africa on the topic of "Step-by-step solutions to the burden of cancer on women in Africa".

Ms. Karen Nakawala, an advocate from the World Health Organization, is a cancer survivor. As a cancer star who has experienced cancer herself, Ms. Karen Nakawala added color to the summit with her unique perspective on her success in the fight against cancer.

The exciting roundtable discussion was the highlight of the China-Africa Cancer Summit. Participating experts expressed their views on cancer prevention and control strategies in China and Africa and engaged in in-depth discussions. The topics covered a wide range of topics, including ways to narrow the gap between the cancer burden in developing and developed countries; China's cancer prevention and control strategies and their effectiveness; the current situation of cancer prevention and control in Africa and the challenges it faces; the prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer and other prevalent cancers in Africa; and the role of nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in the advancement of cancer prevention and control in the world. Through the exchanges and interactions, the Chinese and African experts reached a consensus to promote standardized diagnosis and treatment of tumors and strengthen international cooperation.

The meeting was hosted by Prof. Zhang Ning, Deputy Secretary General of China Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), and Prof. Wang Ying, Vice President of CACA, and Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, President of FLAC Anti-Cancer Association of Nigeria (FACAN), attended the summit and delivered speeches.

China-Africa Anti-Cancer Summit 2023 is another platform for Chinese and African experts and scholars in the field of oncology to learn from each other's experience in tumor prevention and treatment after China-US Anti-Cancer Summit, China-EU Anti-Cancer Summit, China-Australia Anti-Cancer Summit, and China-Latin America Anti-Cancer Summit, which will play a key role in promoting the cooperation between China and Africa in the future, to further improve the level of cancer prevention and control, and to benefit the patients of global oncology.
