The 8th Chinese Conference on Oncology was successfully held in Jinan

  The 8th Chinese Conference on Oncology (CCO) & the 13th Cross-Strait Academic Conference on Oncology were successfully held on 12-13, September in Jinan, Shandong Province, China. It was organized by Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), Chinese Medical Association Tumor Branch, sponsored by Shandong Anti-Cancer Association and Shandong Cancer Hospital, auspiced by Union for International Cancer Control (UICC).

  The conference brought together more than 4000 delegates from around the China, it received 1825 papers for proceeding and 100 papers were selected as poster presentation. The two-day conference includes plenary session, 5 sub-plenary sessions and 34 concurrent sessions. It provided oncologists, scientists, educators, policy makers and cancer patients a unique platform for networking, exchanging and sharing working experiences and the latest achievement.

  On behalf of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), the President Dr. Xishan Hao welcomed invited experts and delegates at home and abroad. He pointed out the high rising cancer burden influences country’s economic growth and harmonious social integration. We, as the civil society, are responsible for improving cancer prevention and treatment strategy via organizing scientific and academic exchange and communication.

  Mr. Cary Adams, CEO of UICC was invited to participate the conference and gave a highlight presentation. At the opening ceremony, he delivered a congratulatory speech, he hope that all delegates can learn from each other and be inspired to make a difference on cancer control. He also welcome Chinese delegates to attend the upcoming World Cancer Congress to be held in December 3-6, 2014 in Melbourne, Australia.

  During the conference, the UICC and CACA jointly organized the Chinese administrative management training course. This is the first time for Chinese administrative working staffs in the field of oncology to join the international training. The class provided an opportunity to administrators to improve management skills and cancer control strategy. Mr. Cary Adams gave an excellent presentation on the civil society played an important role on global cancer control.

  At the closing ceremony of the conference, Dr. Ying Wang, the General Secretary of CACA announced the 9th Chinese Conference on Oncology (CCO) will be held in Wuhan, Hubei Province in 2016.
