Congratulatory Video for 2014.4.15 National Cancer Week by WHO Beijing Representative, Dr. Bernhard Schwartlander

  Ladies and Gentleman,

  Good morning,

  I am sorry I am not able to be with you in person in Changsha today. But I am pleased to be able to provide this video message to help mark the 20th Anniversary of National Cancer Week in China.

  Let me first say big thank you to the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and you many parts of the associations for all the efforts they have done of the past 20 years to contribute to the cancer prevention and control in China.

  Anyone who has been touched by cancer knows well the organizations like the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association as so special and so important. Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide. Many cancer deaths are preventable and all of us should be doing all they can do to prevent the cancer whenever it is possible.

  For those cancer cases can’t be prevented, we must improve the cancer treatment and support services and should reach anybody who need. In recent years, China has made good progress in cancer control. For example, those remarkable successes for hepatisis B vaccination program which is prevented millions of liver cancer. But there are so much more that we have to do.

  National cancer week is the opportunity to celerbrate such success have achieved today, but also to focus the attention to support the important work ahead.

  World Health Organization (WHO) looks forward to working with Chinese Anti-Cancer Association all of you here and fight against cancer in China now and the future.
