International Expo of Healthy Lifestyle held in Shanghai

  The three-day long 2009 International Expo of Healthy Lifestyle concluded on April 20 in Shanghai.

  Visitors demonstrated a strong interest in booths of healthy food, home life, sports fitness, women and children's healthcare and sleep quality. They inquired the issues affecting healthy living such as how many fruits and vegetables to eat each day, whether necessary to eat eggs, how much milk to drink daily and so on.

  Committing to the theme of the Shanghai Expo 2010 "Better City, Better Life" and health strategy of ^Healthy China 2020", Ministry of Health, Ministry of Science and Technology, China Association for Science and Technology, Shanghai municipal government and several scientific associations (including the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association) jointly sponsored the first International Expo of Healthy Lifestyle this year, introducing to the public a healthy lifestyle and guiding the people to live a healthy life. Minister of Health Chen Zhu, Vice President Chen Saijuan of CAST and Vice Mayor Shen Xiaoming of Shanghai were present at the opening ceremony on April 18.

  Dr. Zhu Baihua, the assistant of the General Secretary of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association participated in the Expo. The Breast Cancer Screening Project launched by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association was introduced through flyers and booth. The participants showed great interests in this project.

  The exhibition zone of National Healthy Lifestyle Action decorated in green was quite eye-catching. The display boards that carried striking information about everyday life warned the visitors of the various misconceptions in people's conventional beliefs. A visitor exclaims after watching, "Oh gosh, what I used to do is so unscientific."

  China Nutrition Society's booth attracted many people for inquiring. Displaying a variety of vegetables, dairy products and poultry meat in glass booth, the staff explained to the visitors the "Pyramid Diagram of Balanced Diet for Chinese Residents" and proposed to set a reasonable daily diet in accordance with scientific standards. In front of the health science display boards, many people took pictures or took notes of the tips printed on the boards.

  Focusing on the theme of "putting prevention first and living a healthy life", the exhibition zone "Traditional Chinese Medine's Advice: Act before you are ill" made use of various forms to disseminate health knowledge and skills, correct misunderstandings in lifestyle and promote appropriate actions and practice. At the scene, the staff patiently offered free exams and suggestions to the visitors. It was greatly welcomed by the senor citizens.

  The Expo also consisted of Healthy China 2020 Strategy & National Health lifestyle Action Seminar, Flu Prevention Strategy Seminar, 2009 International Forum on Nutrition Healthcare & Food Safety, etc.

  The visitors were particularly interested in the lectures and talks given by health experts at various forums because the information and advice provided by them were based on authoritative research and easy to remember and easy to practice. Many people had to stand to listen to the lectures to the end for about one hour and a half.
