The Conference for Tobacco control and Implement of WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control

  The Conference for Tobacco control and Implement of WHO's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control was held in Beijing, China on December 15, 2007. Nearly 100 delegates from the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association (CMA), the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Chinese Association on Tobacco Control, the China Association of Health Education and the Cancer Foundation of China took part in the conference. The General Secretary and the Vice Secretary-General of the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) attended the conference.

  “The implement of Frame work Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) made some progress, but we still have a long way to go”, said Dr. Longde Wang, the President of CMA, “Tobacco control is more than a public issue; it relates to the economical and social development. Therefore to further strengthen the smoke-free worksite is both inevitable and necessary.”

  The leadership of the National Development and Reform Commission, the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, and Hong Kong Council on Tobacco and Health reported the progress of implementing WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. They also shared the experience of tobacco control.

  Six academicians including the Dr. Zhu Chen, the director of Bureau of Public Health signed a Proposal to call for “Smoke-free worksite, starts from government offices”. This proposal encourage all government office to issue regulation to ban smoking at worksite, help smokers to give up smoking and fulfill the FCTC. The General-Secretary and Vice Secretary-General of CACA, Prof. Guangchao Zhang and Prof. Ying Wang signed the Proposal.
