World Cancer Leaders' Summit 2015
Call for Young Leaders' applications

Developing the next generation of Cancer Leaders

UICC invites eight young leaders to every World Cancer Leaders’ Summit to inspire them to be the leaders of the future

Dear UICC Members,

How exciting, only one month left until the submission deadline of 30 June, to discover the essays from the Young Leaders within your organisation or network who applied to attend the 2015 World Cancer Leader’s Summit, 17-18 November, Hilton Bosphorus, in Istanbul, Turkey.

UICC looks forward to welcoming the leaders of tomorrow to our annual high-level policy meeting, and help them develop a network of senior contacts from around the world, learn and share best practises and hopefully get inspired to take further action against cancer within their communities, countries and globally.

So far, we already have about 60 leaders from UICC members organisations, UN agencies, academia and international health organisations, including three Ministers of Health (Ireland, Algeria and Tunisia), our prestigious ambassadors Her Highness Princess Dina Mired from Jordan, and Sir George Alleyne, Director Emeritus PAHO, who will come to the Summit in Istanbul.

We encourage those of you who received the official invitation on 16 April to register for the event. Titled ‘Effective International Collaboration’, this year’s Summit agenda is crafted around the inclusion of cancer in the new UN Sustainable Development Goals and promises to hold fruitful discussions about the next steps and the actions that the global cancer community needs to undertake to address the cancer epidemic in this new context.

Short recap of the Young Leaders’ application process:

  • To apply to attend the 2015 World Cancer Leader’s Summit in Istanbul, please send your 1,000 word essay on Effective International Collaboration along with your CV/biography and letters of recommendation to wcls@uicc.org.
  • The deadline to receive your application is 30 June 2015. Please note that late applications will not be considered.
  • The decisions of the panel review will be communicated to all candidates on 30 July and are final.
  • Authors of the eight best essays will be invited to attend the Summit in Istanbul – reasonable travel and accommodation costs will be covered by UICC. If anyone cannot attend then another young leader may be invited in their place.

For further information, you can view the full description of the process here, or please contact Mina Djordjic at djordjic@uicc.org.

Yours sincerely,
