2011 “Love sparks splendid life—bright future of cancer control in China” awarding ceremony successfully held in Beijing on December 29, 2011. People who attended the awarding ceremony included, Ms. Lingzhi Kong, Deputy Chief of the Bureau of Disease Control of P.R.China, Prof. Liangyou Wu, Chief of the Bureau of Chronic Disease Control of China, Prof. Guangchao Zhang, General Secretary of CACA, Prof. Xiuyi Zhi, Director of the Science Dissemination Department, Prof. Anli Shi, Chairman of the Committee of Cancer Recovery, Mr. Xinguang Wang, Deputy Manager of Shanghai Roche Ltd. and major representatives of the Committee of Cancer Recovery from 5 areas. The mass media, about fifty newspapers, internet and TV stations, were invited the event.

Ms. Linzhi Kong pointed cancer is not merely a global public health problem, it brings huge damage to every cancer patient and attack their families. “Love sparks splendid life—bright future of cancer control in China” encourages patients and families to be strong and have positive attitudes toward to fighting against cancer. Ms. Kong expressed several insights based on the project: firstly, enchancing promote the early diagnosis and treatment, and standardised treatment of cancer in nation; secondly, improving the quality of cancer diagnosis and treatment via strengthening the collaborations between cancer associations; thirdly, encouraging the cancer academic research and providing helpful information to patients; forthly, establishing cancer dissemination network and promoting involvment of related organizations.
Professor Guangchao Zhang concluded the bright points regarding the project. Firstly,the project paid highly attention to the intervention of the cancer patients’ family. Secondly, the project used face-to-face communication manners to promote patients involvement.Thirdly, the project covered broad fields of cancer, such as gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, malignant lymphoma, breast cancer. 11 cities held related public education seminars. Forthly, the project highly concerned on mobilizing local cancer recovery committees to provide caring service to patients.
Professor Anli Shi demonstrated that the majority of cancer patients in China are tended by their families. Families’ nursing has big impact on patients’ psychological and physiological recovery. Therefore, highly concerning the families care is significant to help patients to be positive in fighting against cancer.
In the awarding ceremony, “anti-cancer star family booklet” signing ceremony was lauched at the same time. The booklet concluded 15 Chinese anti-cancer star families out of 108 typical anti-cancer star families. In the signing ceremony, Sha Na and other 2 families were awarded the “Chinese Anti-Cancer Star Family”. Professor Guangchao Zhang was awarded the “Outstanding Contribution” according to his great contribution in organizing and mobilizing the social force to promote the project.
