This meeting is intended to lead to the establishment of a good cancer prevention and control mechanism in China, drive the formulation of effective and feasible cancer prevention and control strategies, and intensify the long-term relationship and cooperation among multiple associations on the popularization, promotion and education of cancer knowledge by means of high-grade academic communication.
On the afternoon of September 21st, the academic hall in Cancer Institute and Hospital of Tianjin Medical University witnessed an academician-level forum, which was presided by Academician Hao Xishan, President of CACA. President of CPMA, Academician Wang Longde, attended the forum and delivered a speech. He pointed out in his speech that cancer is a serious disease severely endangering human health and life and hence the situation of cancer prevention and cancer fighting is grim and alarming to a greater extent.
Three academicians from Chinese Academy of Engineering, Hao Xishan, Sun Yan and Cheng Shujun, made their keynote speeches respectively under the subjects of “Epidemic Tendency and Prevention of Malignant Tumor in China”, “Development of Chinese Clinical Oncology in the Past 50 Years”, and “The Way to Develop Cancer Prevention”. They made clear in the forum the following: Cancer has become a universal public health concern and the first cause to account for human death, with its incidence increasing at an annual average rate of 3%-5% and 3/4 of new cases occurring in emerging industrial countries and developing countries. New scientific development of the day brings us a realization that the treatment of cancer should continuously advance from the early stage and the prevention and treatment of precancerous lesions will be an important strategic measure for humans to control malignant tumors. In the near future, the dominant direction of cancer research will shift from single gene to polygene, from single level to integrated levels, and from one cell to overall system (including cellular network, signal passage, gene regulatory network, and metabolic network). Former President of UICC, David Hill, offered his detailed introduction to the prevalent tendency of cancer prevention in the current world from the perspectives of principle and anticipated outcome of treatment.
The afternoon of September 21st also saw “Change the Future --- Summit Forum on Chinese Cancer Prevention and Treatment” in the academic hall in Cancer Institute and Hospital of Tianjin Medical University. Under the guidance of the theme “Change the Future of Chinese Cancer Prevention”, the forum started from multiple stances of administrative authorities of the government, academic communities on cancer prevention and control, disseminator of cancer science, enterprises and media to elaborate with different approaches how the popularization of science on cancer prevention and treatment on a national scale would push and restrict the development of Chinese medical care, the health and life of the broad masses, and the harmonious development of the whole society. A symposium was held on the morning of September 22nd. Professor Peng Yu, Chairperson of CFC, acted as the master. The symposium invited 12 academic leaders, experts and professors in the area of oncology to present their reports on early cancer detection and early treatment, epidemic tendency of cancer, and diagnosis and research of several common illnesses.
