On 15-21, April, the 17th National Cancer Week rolled out its activities around the nation with a theme of “The Science of Cancer Control, The Care for People’s Life”. In order to bring the anti-cancer project into the spotlight, the Chinese Anti-cancer Association (CACA), together with its affiliated organizations, appealed the Chinese public to get into an immediate action, in a move to disseminate an idea of scientific anti-cancer, spread anti-cancer knowledge and promote a mode of standardized treatment.
In the morning of 15, April, the opening ceremony of 17th National Cancer Week was hosted in the May First Square, located in Fuzhou, Fujian province. The national cancer campaign was undertaken jointly by the Chinese Anti-cancer Association (CACA), Ministry of Health in Fujian province and the commission of Fujian Science & Technology. Several major leaders delivered their speeches at the ceremony, such as Kan Gao, You Liangwu, and Bujian Tang, etc. Apart from professional experts, volunteers and recovery cancer patients, amounting to one thousand of people, were present at the opening ceremony. The 1st ceremonial award to Fujian anti-cancer stars, circulation of popularization brochures and relevant performances were arranged during the opening ceremony. After the inauguration, present people signed on the board of World Cancer Declaration, followed by scientific popularization lectures and experts gratuitous examination.

The 17th National Cancer Week boasted four distinctive characteristics:
First, heterogeneous activities were based on local situation. To put it exactly, a lot of local provinces specify the theme with subheads. Taking the Jinan 159th center hospital as an example, they applied “Scientific Anti-cancer, Affection to life, Focus on Three Early Matter, City Happiness” as the subhead, embodying the theme spirit from different aspects.
Second, Pay attention to life itself and change unhealthy lifestyle. The Beijing Anti-cancer Association carried out a lecture of “Psychology—a cornerstone of health”, which aimed to clear people’s misunderstanding about cancer in psychology, such as “cancer is end of the world” “I always concern about the possibility of getting cancer.” etc. Dr. Xiaoling Mu, a producer of “Anti-cancer kitchen” program, delivered a lecture on how to intake more nutrition, telling people to absorb more anti-cancer substances from daily food with one more minute, and to keep a healthy mind status. The Jilin Anti-cancer Association and Jilin Tumor Hospital jointly provided advice to people who had difficulty in giving up smoking. They utilized a comprehensive evaluation so that they could tailor quitting plans for each individual smoker. Smokers were provided with several services such as psychology consultancy, medicine control and food advice, etc. Promotion materials about how to quit smoking were handed out to present smoking patients.
Third, pay attention to promote standardized treatment. The Professional Commission of Large Intestine in the CACA hosted a nationwide education activity, inaugurated in Hangzhou on 15, April. They will give lectures in about twenty regions, both metropolises and media-sized cities. Netizens spoke highly of an e-brochure on the website of “www.cacacrc.org.cn (the public)”, which was about the standardized prevention and treatment issued by the professional commission.
Forth, pay attention to patients’ recovery. The Tianjin Anti-cancer Association held an award ceremony for anti-cancer stars, and about 25 thousand brochures that introduced 15 diseases were circulated to people. The Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Anti-cancer Association organized anti-cancer stars to have a face to face communication with cancer patients. Anti-cancer stars cheered patients up with their own experiences, encouraging patients to fight for a better life. The Sichuan Province Anti-Cancer Association ran an anti-cancer sport meeting. More than 300 members of Cancer Recovery Commission participated in the sport meeting.
About 200 organizations partook in the activity, including professional commissions, anti-cancer associations, hospitals and relevant communities, etc. About 350 thousand people benefited from 135 lectures, 190 gratuitous examinations and 213,100 popularization materials. The mass media around the nation reported the activity amounting to 300 times. During the Week, the UICC World Cancer Declaration Signing Event was carried out nationwide, which appealed the Chinese public to intensify their scientific idea in cancer control.
