In the morning of 15, April, 2011, the opening ceremony of 17th National Cancer Week was hosted in the May First Square, located in Fuzhou, Fujian province. With a theme of “scientific anti-cancer, affection to life”, the national cancer campaign was undertaken jointly by the Chinese Anti-cancer Association (CACA), Ministry of Health in Fujian province and the commission of Fujian Science & Technology. Other institutes in Fujian province participated in the ceremony as well.

　　Several major leaders delivered their speeches at the ceremony. Apart from professional experts, volunteers and recovery cancer patients, amounting to one thousand of people, were present at the opening ceremony.

Launching Ceremony

　　Prof. Mingang Ying, welcomed and extended his heartfelt gratitude to all the guests on behalf of the host institutions. He talked about the role played by the CACA --the only nation-leveled commission in cancer field, speaking highly of its contribution to the Chinese anti-cancer and health promotion, especially the National Cancer Week which has been a typical science popularization activity, admired by the public. Fruitful Anti-cancer work in Fujian province wined its the opportunity to carry out the inauguration, and the province should make full use of the chance to make great contribution to the Fujian anti-cancer by integrating all the sauces, prof. Ying said.

Volunteer medical consultation

　　Deputy Minister of Kan Gao expressed its congratulation to the activity and paid homage to the CACA and anti-cancer medical workers. He said, with a unique advantage, the CACA cooperated with people from all walks of life so that a lot of effective work had been done. In the end, he appealed people to pay due attention to anti-cancer.

　　Mr. Liangyou Wu emphasized the importance of associations, especially the CACA, experts and cancer recovery commissions, which would facilitate the prevention work. It was necessary to intensify the anti-cancer work, advocate a healthy life and increase people’s awareness of cancer. In order to reduce complications and mortality, some major cancer should be treated in an early stage and standard treatment should be promoted. As a result, cancer patients would enjoy a higher life quality.

　　Prof. Bujian Tang, Vice President of CACA, indicated that the National Cancer Week had been successful hosted in the past years, and 17th Week would live up to people’s expectation. He wished the Chinese public would be motivated to take part in the anti-cancer project, and their anti-cancer awareness would be further increased through a series of activities.

　　Mr. Tang declared the official inauguration of the 17th National Cancer Week, and the ensuing celebration consummated the inauguration. Other related anti-cancer activities were held during the opening ceremony. After the inauguration, people in attendance signed on the board of “World Cancer Declaration”. Thousands of patients and their families participated in scientific lectures and gratuitous examinations. Over 3000 science popularization brochures were handed out.
