Dr. Hao

　　Dr. Hao, the president of Chinese Anti-cancer Association(CACA), delivered a speech of “Love sparks splendid life—bright future of Chinese anti-cancer” for the project inauguration. Here comes the full text.

　　Dear heads of government, all guests and friends of the press:

　　Good Morning!

　　First of all, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to you for sparing time to attend the inauguration, and to those who care for cancer patients and the disease itself.

　　It is well acknowledged that cancer has been a macabre disease that poses a great threat to people’s health. As for death reason, malignant tumor ranks as the first and the second lethal disease in cities (accounting for 25.0%) and in rural areas (accounting for 21.0%), according to the data from a survey of the third national death reason released by the Ministry of Health. The death rate of malignant tumor is in a continuous increase, up by 83.1% and 22.5%, compared with 1970s and 1990s respectively.

　　Medical workers, together with all levels of government and people from all walks of life, should make more efforts and give substantial support, so as to confront the harsh challenge and take the arduous task in anti-cancer.

　　Since 2008, joint efforts made by the bureau of disease control in Ministry of Health and Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) on “three year plan of Chinese anti-cancer promotion” has achieved satisfying achievement---“Dialogue with hope” in 2008, “Hope in hand” in 2009 and “Passing hope” in 2010. In the past three years, the Hope Project---“Plan of Chinese Cancer Control Promotion”, led by the Bureau of Disease Control, made extraordinary achievement with efforts of the entire people.

　　During the three years, more than ten experts in ther field of cancer control worked with each other to write and verify materials of science popularization. At the same time, experts actively participated in various activities, for example, they directed medical workers around the nation to carry out gratuitous examination, in a move to have a face to face communication with patients.

　　Thousands of cancer patients showed their passions in taking part in a series of activities, such as article and photograph contests, which presented us with more than 500 of wonderful articles about anti-cancer experiences and over 100 impressive pictures of anti-cancer patients. Patients and their families were given anti-cancer brochures for free, and over 5000 patients interacted well with experts in various ways. In three years, the project has established its status in the public, thanks to the press which paid due attention to it. For example, over 400 correspondents around the nation were involved in the project, making contribution to the project with about 700 news reports which were highly published through the Internet and other newspaper.

　　Today, the project of “Love sparks splendid life—bright future of Chinese cancer control”, supported by the Bureau of Disease Control and sponsored by CACA, will be launched, which will inherit the spirit of “Plan of Chinese Cancer Control Promotion”, and take some initiatives as well. Experts, patients and the press will be invited to partake in the project as usual. And furthermore, a lot of interesting activities will be carried out, such as “Anti-Cancer Family Star” and “The Most Touching Chinese Charity Night”.

　　Under the banner of “Love sparks splendid life”, the CACA would like to be hand in hand with people from all walks of life to advocate anti-cancer knowledge so that people will have a proper attitude towards cancer, and consultancy and direction will be provided to cancer patients. We believe that love will enable patients to toughen up their characters, and a splendid life may be harvested.
