Dr.Mary Baker made a speech

　　Experience-sharing conference of global patient organizations was held in Frankfurt Germany on Mar. 2nd -3rd, 2011. Professor Zhang Guangchao, secretary-general of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Professor Zhi Xiuyi, director of Popular Science Publicity Department for Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Professor Shi Lian, director of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association Rehabilitation Committee, Mr. Yuan Zhengping, vice director of the committee and director of Shanghai Cancer Rehabilitation Club and Mrs. Qin Yin, secretary-general of Beijing Cancer Rehabilitation Association participated in the conference.

　　This conference is initiated by Roche Pharmaceuticals. It is an international conference carried out by “Global Patient Organization Steering Committee” with more than one hundred representatives from caner-prevention non-governmental organizations and patient organizations in Europe, Asia, America and etc.. Dr. Mary Baker, Chairman of “Global Patient Organization Steering Committee” and European Neurological Union presided over it.

　　World famous experts like Terence Rugg, vice chairman of U.S. Biological Cancer Medical Affairs and Gene Technology, Surendra Gokhale, manager of Roche Pharmaceuticals clinical standardized system, Susan Knox of Italian Breast Cancer Union, Luciana Holtz of Brazil Cancer Instituion and Stella Kyriakides of Cyprus Parliament were invited to make special reports on such issues as “ the study on the promotion of new therapy from clinic perspective”, “how to research and develop new medicine: the role of the authorities’ supervision”, the role of social network in policy promotion”, “fund-raising of cancer prevention” and “how patients influence policies”.

　　By the means of voting, site statistics and result display on screen, participants’ recognition and understanding of the following issues: 1. current economic situation’s influence on medical treatment and hospitalization; 2. Acknowledgement of the promotion of new therapy and reimbursement decisions; 3. working experience of participants with decision-makers were investigated.

　　Dr. Severin Schwan, CEO of Roche Pharmaceuticals answered the questions put forward by delegations. Professor Zhang Guangchao, secretary-general of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association had a friendly communication with Dr. Mary Baker, chairman of the conference. He also introduced the general situation of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association and gave book series of “life is wonderful—dialogue hopes” and some other things as gifts. Professor Zhi Xiuyi, director of Popular Science Publicity Department for Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, also gave a brief introduction of the work in popular science and cancer rehabilitation.
