On the occasion of the world2010 World Expo Shanghai, China which commands the attention of the world, the 6th Chinese Conference on Oncology (6th CCO) & 9th Cross-Strait Academic Conference on Oncology raised its curtain in Shanghai Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center on May 21. This conference was hosted by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), the Chinese Medical Association Oncology Society, and the Chinese Academy of Engineering Division of Medical and Health; co-sponsored by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC) and the Fudan University; and supported by the Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center.

　　Attended the meeting were Academician HAO Xishan, president of the CACA, Academician YANG Yuliang, President of the Fudan University, Academician YANG Shengli, director of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Division of Medical and Health, Prof. David Hill, president of the UICC, Prof. HU Xiaojun, director of the China Awards Office, Prof. ZHAO Minggang, Deputy Director of Department of Health Ministry Medical Reform, Prof. ZHANG Qinzhao, Secretary of Party of the Chinese of Association Science and Technology. They also made important speeches in the Opening Ceremony.

　　Also attended meeting were Academicians WU Mengchao, TANG Zhaoyou, CHENG Shujun, CHEN Zhinan, DING Jian, WANG Hongyang, WANG Zhenhyi, ZHENG Shusen, LU Daopei, FAN Shangda, GU Jianren, CHENG Jing, ZENG Yixin, ZHEN Yongsu. Three thousand oncologists from China, aboard, Hongkong(China), Macao(China) and Taiwan(China) participated the ceremony.

　　Prof. HAO pointed out that the theme of the 6th CCO, “Scientific antti-cancer makes life better”, was echoed the theme of the 2010 World Expo, “Better City, Better Life”. The theme of the 6th CCO expressed our strong desire to defeat cancer and pursue perfect life. The 6th CCO would introduce the most advanced and valuable academic process which showed the new concept, development and information on oncology. It set up a platform for the oncologists home and aboard to share their research findings and experience of clinical treatment.

　　President YANG Yuliang told in his speech that the Chinese Conference on Oncology as a academic forum has achieved great success. It was a great honor for the Fudan University to be a co-sponsor of the congress. It was self-evidence that this conference would function as a high-standard symposium that exchanges that latest progress on clinic, basic research, prevention, diagnosis, recovery and care.

　　Prof. YANG Shengli mentioned that cancer, as a sever disease that thread human life kills 1.6 million people per year. Cancer is the top killer of young and middle-aged people. Fight against cancer and improve life quality remain the subject that attracting the attention of oncology society. We health professionals should be brave to shoulder even heavier burden caused by cancer.

　　On behalf of their organizations, President Hill, Director Zhao and Secretary Zhang warmly congratulated the opening of the 6th CCO. They hoped to see more efforts of the oncologists, governments, and communities with the aim of facing the more and more tough challenges.

　　Prof. Jiang expressed his sincere welcome to the experts and guests He believed that this conference would serve as a platform for doctors and cancer related people.

　　The awarding ceremony of the Scientific Awards of the CACA was held during the opening ceremony. Vice-President and Academician CHENG Shujun presented the Resolution on the Technology Award of CACA and announced the list that won the awards. Prof. HU Xiaojun made a speech of congratulations. With a stately melody, the 30 winners accepted the certificate on the rostrum.
