Unveiling Ceremony of UICC China Spoke

Unveiling Ceremony of UICC China Spoke was held on September 29, 2009 in Tianjin. Professor David Hill, President of UICC, Cheng Jinxin, Director of Tianjin Health Bureau, and several academicians attended the ceremony and delivered important speeches.

International Union Against Cancer (UICC) is the leading international non-governmental organization dedicated exclusively to the global cancer control. UICC National Spokes represent a virtual UICC presence in a specific country and serve as a common platform to promote close cooperation amongst the UICC members within this country. The mandate of the UICC National Spoke is to mobilize the UICC members to undertake joint activities and to promote advocacy under the UICC banner. The activities of the UICC National Spoke need to be consistent with the activities and messages of UICC.

China has been cooperating with the UICC for a long time. There are seven UICC members in China: mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Chinese Medical Association (CMA) and Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) are two leading medical communities dedicate in cancer control.

Since joined into UICC in 1992, CACA has made significant achievements in cancer prevention and control in China. Under the guidance of UICC, CACA has carried out a series of campaigns and activities in fighting against cancer including launching cancer screening work all around the country. Recognizing outstanding contribution to cancer control in China, UICC China Spoke was formally approved to set up in Tianjin, at the headquarter of CACA.

The UICC China Spoke will build a bridge for the cancer related people home and aboard, advocate UICC¨s policy and spirit, and encourage and foster all aspects of the fight against cancer. It will act as a platform for all the Chinese anticancer organizations to cooperate and communicate with each other and with their counterparts aboard.
