World Cancer Day Campaign launched in China

　　In response of campaign of the World Cancer Day initiated by the International Union Against Cancer (UICC). The Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA) will launch “I love my healthy active childhood” on 4 February 2009 in China.

　　CACA advocate all professional workers and public around the China to take action for the World Cancer Day by summoning 30 provincial anti-cancer associations and 35 specialized committees. A series of public educational flyers and brochures were distributed to each society for promoting local activities.

　　Free medical examination, consultation and lectures will be provided by CACA on the World Cancer Day. To raise awareness about the link between overweight, obesity and cancer, there are 6 experts organized by The Tianjin Anti-Cancer Association and the Tianjin Women and Children Health Care Center will offer free service for target children and their families. In Jinan City, 4 medical team composed of 20 volunteers from the Shandong Province Anti-Cancer Association will be in different hospitals and deliver public education lectures on obesity and provide medical diagnosis for people. The Hebei Province Anti-Cancer Association will also organize free diagnosis and consultation by experts on children oncology.

　　The Beijing Association of Health Education, SOHU.COM and CACA will jointly sponsor a Live Video Interview on SOHU.COM under the banner of “I love my health active childhood – keep children away from obesity and cancer”. Prof. Guangchao Zhang, the General Secretary of CACA and the Deputy-Director of the Committee of Children Cancer in CACA, Prof. Xiuyi Zhi, the Vice-President of Beijing Association of Health Education and Prof. Yuan Zhou, the director of the Hematology Department in the Beijing Children’s Hospital were invited to reveal the relationship between cancer and obesity. These three experts will communicate with friends from press, netizens and citizens; answer their questions related to obesity and cancer and provide advises about preventing obesity and cancer.

　　To spread scientific knowledge of overweight, obesity and cancer, a new column on World Cancer Day Campaign is created on the website of CACA. It can help parents, educators and health care workers promote the concept and awareness of encouraging children live a healthy lifestyle by offering information.
