The 5th Chinese Conference on Oncology

  The 5th Chinese Conference (5th CCO) on Oncology which was jointly hosted by the Chinese Anti-Cancer Association (CACA), Chinese Medical Association, International Union Against Cancer, The Health Bureau of Hebei Province, and Hebei University Fourth Hospital was held on September 19-21, 2008. The International society for Cell and Gene Therapy of Cancer (ISCGT) Congress, the 7th Cross-Strait Academic Conference on Oncology and the 2nd China-Japan Conference on Tumor Interventional Therapy were affiliated to the 5th CCO. The congress received the congratulation letters from the Ministry of Health of the PRC. The leadership of the government of Hebei Province took part in the opening ceremony.

  The theme of the conference was Cure Cancer Scientifically, Improve Human Health Successfully. Over 4,000 experts conducted profound academic research and discussion or exchanges of ideas on some basic field, clinical treatment, nursing care, rehabilitation and palliative care of cancers.

  The 5th CCO was special in the following four aspects.

  1. Three academic conferences joined the 5th CCO.

  2. The number of experts. A large number of experts home and aboard participated in the 5th CCO, including the president of the International Union Against Cacner (UICC), David Hill; the Presidents and the Council Member of The International Society for Cancer Gene Therapy, Dr. Farzin Farzane and Dr. Nori Kasahara; the President of the International Society of Cryosurgery, Dr. Franco Lugnani; The President of Lega Italiana per la Lotta Contro i Tumori, Dr. Vittorio Silano; the President of Sino-Japanese Interventional Therapy Association, Dr. Nakamura; the Director of Harvard Medical School, Dr. James Griffin; the President of Chinese Anti-Cancer Association, Dr. Xishan Hao; the President of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Dr. Depei Liu.

  3. The number of participants. There are 4076 delegates registered from 19 countries such as USA, UK, Cancada, Switzerland, Japan, etc..

  4. The number of abstracts. The conference received 3076 academic abstracts among which 103 were presented at the plenary session, 621 at co-current session and 317 were selected as poster presentation.

  The 5th CCO enhanced the academic exchange between the expert home and aboard and provided a platform for cooperation and communication. It would significantly influence the anticancer career in China.
